We take great care to provide children with nutritious and wholesome food, prepared by fully qualified professionals. We serve three meals a day:
· Breakfast, which compromises of a selection of cereals
· Two-course hot lunch
· Two-course tea
All our meals are vegetarian.
We provide a 3-week rotational lunch and tea menu and cater for special dietary requirements. The main courses are always served with vegetables/salad to ensure children get all the vitamins and minerals they need to stay healthy.
The food we cater for children contain a low intake of salt, but the right levels of carbohydrates and nutrients.
Children also enjoy fresh fruit, vegetables or savoury foods for mid-morning and mid-afternoon snack. Milk and fresh water is always available.
Staff sit with the children at the table as this encourages good table manners and eating habits. We also find that even the fussiest of eaters become good eaters when they sit with their friends. Children are encouraged to serve themselves at the table and they can have seconds, if they wish. We also encourage children to try new foods. Festivals are another good way of introducing children to foods from different cultures.
A healthy balanced diet is essential for children to ensure they grow and develop. Children start learning about food from an early age and those who develop good eating behaviours and consume a variety of foods from a young age are more likely to carry on these good behaviours as they get older.
